Water Softener

Water Softener
Maintenance Guide

Your water softener removes hardness minerals (calcium & magnesium) from your water using an ion exchange resin bed. Follow this schedule to keep it running at peak performance.

Maintenance Schedule

Task Frequency
Check & refill salt level
Salt should be at least half-full. Use pellet salt (not rock salt).
Monthly
Break up salt bridges
A hardened crust can form above the water, preventing proper regeneration. Poke with a broom handle to break it up.
Every 3 Months
Clean the brine tank
Remove any salt sludge buildup from the bottom of the tank.
Annually
Verify regeneration cycle is running
Check that the timer/meter is set correctly and the unit regenerates overnight as scheduled.
Every 3 Months
Resin bed cleaning / resin cleaner treatment
Add resin cleaner to the brine tank to remove iron fouling from the resin beads.
Every 6 Months
Professional resin inspection
Resin lasts 10–15 years. Call us if you notice soft water is no longer effective.
Every 3–5 Years
