What a Whole House Filter Removes

A point-of-entry (POE) filter treats all water entering your home — every shower, sink, toilet, appliance, and hose bib — at once.

🧪

Chlorine & Chloramines

Houston's water is treated with chlorine and chloramines for disinfection. These cause the chemical smell and taste many residents notice — and can irritate skin and respiratory systems during showers.

🪨

Sediment & Particles

Pipe corrosion, sand, silt, and rust particles enter Houston homes through aging distribution infrastructure. A sediment filter captures these before they reach fixtures and appliances.

⚗️

VOCs & Organic Compounds

Volatile organic compounds from industrial and agricultural runoff can enter municipal water. A carbon block filter adsorbs these compounds at the point of entry.

🛡️

Protects All Appliances

Every appliance connected to your water supply benefits — water heaters, dishwashers, refrigerator ice makers, washing machines, and more all receive pre-filtered water.

What Changes After Installation

Homeowners who install a whole house filter typically notice these changes within the first week.

🚿

Better Showers

No more chlorine smell. Skin and hair feel noticeably better without chloramines stripping natural oils during every shower.

👕

Softer Laundry

Clothes washed in filtered water retain color longer and feel softer — detergent also works more effectively without competing compounds in the water.

🍳

Better Cooking Water

Filtered water improves the taste of coffee, tea, soups, and any food cooked in water — not just drinking water from the tap.

🔧

Protected Appliances

Appliances connected to the water supply operate without sediment clogging aerators, valves, and heating elements.

💰

Reduced Bottled Water Spend

Many households reduce or eliminate bottled water purchases after installing a whole house filter, especially when paired with an under-sink RO system.

Whole House Filter Questions

No — they do different things. A water softener removes calcium and magnesium hardness through ion exchange. A whole house filter removes sediment, chlorine, VOCs, and other contaminants but does not address hardness. For full protection, many Houston homeowners install both — a softener handles hardness, while a whole house filter handles everything else.
At the point where the main water line enters your home — typically in the garage on the line coming in from the meter. All water entering the house passes through the filter before reaching any fixture or appliance. Our plumber determines the exact installation location during the visit.
Sediment filters typically need replacement every 3–6 months depending on your water quality. Carbon filters last 6–12 months. We'll give you a maintenance schedule at installation and can set up reminders if you'd like. Filter replacement is a simple DIY task — no plumber required.
A properly sized whole house filter causes minimal pressure drop — typically less than 2–3 PSI when clean. Pressure drop increases as the filter loads, which is why staying on the replacement schedule matters. We size the system to your home's flow rate to minimize any pressure impact.
